I have been lucky enough to have been sent to the College Music Journal Music Marathon in NYC for the second year in a row, as a representative of Bearcastradio.com, the college radio station where I work. The CMJ Music Marathon is an awesome event that attracts hundreds of bands in dozens of venues in NYC over a week or so.

Along with conferences specific to college and independent radio, there are sessions and panels about the music industry as a whole. Another part of the festival that I regret not exploring as much is the Film Festival portion that occurs every year.
Representing the UC radio station was a great part of the trip, because comparing stations and procedures with other college radio station directors was extremely beneficial and reassuring…it allowed us to feel like we were on the right path, for the most part.
One of my favorite part about this year’s experience was the amount of sightseeing/traveling I got to do in NYC during our stay. A friend of mine and I won tickets to see HAIR on Broadway thanks to CMJ, and the lead was Gavin Creel, who happened to go to our high school
Another great part of the trip was the opportunity to go to a CCM performance at Steinway Hall. The College-Conservatory of Music was appointed as an All-Steinway School this year, so along with our purchase of over 150 additional Steinways, we have also begun to have special CCM performances in Steinway Hall.
The hall was extremely interesting to go to, because it is an old building that has gorgeous paintings of different composers in the main entrance, as well as elegant wall ornaments and chandeliers throughout the building. Also, down one of the hallways were display cases showing the different steps necessary in order to handcraft a Steinway grand piano.
